Dr Dinesh Nayak is senior consultant Neurologist, Epileptologist and currently the Director of Department of Neurology & Advanced Centre for Epilepsy at Gleneagles Global Health City, Chennai, India.
Recipient of S.M. Munirathinam Chetty Gold Medal for receiving highest marks in the final MD examination, Dr Dinesh is trained in neurology (DM degree) at Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST), Trivandrum, India, an institute of national importance, from 1993 to 1995. In 2000, he was awarded the Dr. PN Berry scholarship for training in epileptology at King’s College Hospital, London, UK where he received training in intracranial EEG and video-EEG till 2003.
He was actively involved in the epilepsy surgery program at the world-renowned R. Madhavan Nayar Center for Comprehensive Epilepsy Care, SCTIMST, Trivandrum and has performed pre-surgical evaluation of over 2000 drug-resistant epilepsy patients. He has expertise in video-EEG monitoring, pre-surgical evaluation of medically refractory epilepsy, vagal nerve stimulation and intracranial EEG monitoring. He had served as the faculty for the annual video-EEG Master class conducted by King’s College Hospital, London, UK.
He has extensive experience in managing a wide variety of acute and chronic neurological conditions and teaches clinical neurology to postgraduate students of medicine and neurology. He conducts workshops on EEG and video-EEG all over the country. In 2010 he set up a vibrant epilepsy surgery program at Chennai, India, and since then over 200 epilepsy surgeries, both temporal and extratemporal as well as intracranial EEG with subdural grids and stereo-EEG depth electrodes have been performed.
He has several publications in peer-reviewed national and international journals. He has won several best paper awards in various national conferences. He had served on the editorial board of the Annals of Indian Academy of Neurology.
