Dr. A. B. Mehta has rich experience of more than 50 years in the field of Cardiology. By this time, he has performed and supervised more than 20,000 Angioplasties and 100,000 Angiographies.
His special interests are: Complex Angioplasty, Rotablation, Laser Atherectomy, Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS) & Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR).
He has received the prestigious Padmashree Award from the President of India in 2004. He has received Life Time Achievement Award from many organisations apart from many other awards. Above all, he has received the Jaslok Ratna Award (2020); so far not given to anybody else in the history of Jaslok Hospital.
He has enjoyed the position of President of World Congress of Coronary Heart Disease (1981 & 1986) and the position of President of Cardiological Society of India (1998).
He has done pioneering work and was responsible for placing First Drug Eluting Stent (DES) in the country in May 2002. He was one of the first ones to start Primary Angioplasty in Myocardial Infarction (PAMI) and also published first systematic trial comparing Angioplasty with thrombolysis in Acute myocardial infarction from Sion Hospital.
